Quality Factor (also known as “Q”) stands for Quality Factor, the ratio of the frequency width to the central frequency. The higher the Q, the more resonant the filter and the narrower the range of frequencies that are allowed to pass. The lower the Q, the broader the bandwidth curve of frequencies that will be boosted or cut.
The “Quality factor” of a filter defines the bandwidth of frequencies that will be affected by an equalizer. Q (bandwidth) is known as the width of a curve in a parametric EQ.
